The Beaches of Palau

There are 21 beaches along the coast of Palau, most of which are easily reachable. There are four in the Gulf of Saline, where the Camping Village Capo d’Orso is located: the beach of Saline which can be reached directly from the campsite, the beach of the Swedes (Cala Lepre), the beach of Vena Longa (Portu Mannu) and the beach of Cala Capra. Heading north, you get to the beaches of Palau Vecchio and Porto Faro to Palau and then you reach Cala Inglese and Porto Rafael, the beach of Porto Puddu (Porto Pollo) and Cala Liscia.

The beach of Palau Vecchio, a charming ochre, is bordered by the pine wood and a long walk. It is located in the centre of Palau, along the tracks of the old railway line, and is easily reachable. This beach is suitable for children thanks to the fine sand and shallow seabed.

The beach of Porto Faro

The beach of Porto Faro with its white sand contrasting to the Mediterranean maquis almost touching the sea, is certainly one of the most beautiful of the territory. Despite being located in the city of Palau, it is not a very popular beach and is thus a must visit if you are looking for a quiet place.

Porto Rafael and Cala Inglese

Porto Rafael is a small village in the north of Palau created in the sixties by Rafael Neville and visited over the years by numerous artists. Today it still retains a spirit and charm of bygone times. From the Piazzetta, the centre of the small town, you can enjoy the view over Cala Inglese, the “pool” of Porto Rafael, a charming beach of rather pink sand and crystalline sea with small rounded granite rocks.

The beach of Porto Liscia

The beach of Porto Liscia, not far from Porto Puddu is located in the area between the municipalities of Palau and Santa Teresa di Gallura, divided by the mouth of the homonym river. This is the most extensive sandy beach in the north-east coast of Sardinia, 8 km long with a sandy granitic beach and slightly deep sea bottom.

Located between Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura, the beach of Porto Pollo is made of fine sand, emerald sea and small rocky coves sheltered from the wind, against the green colour of the typical Mediterranean scrub of Sardinia. The windy character of the place, attracts a strong presence of windsurfers and sailors.
